Tax Manager

A key member of the Accounting team, you will be responsible for a variety of tax activities and projects in support of nLIGHT’s expanding business. nLIGHT currently has operations in Vancouver, Washington and Hillsboro, Oregon, China, Finland and South Korea. You need to be a hands-on manager who will ensure we maintain compliance with various tax rules and regulations, and optimize our tax structure as business changes.  You will work with international accounting teams and other functions to implement changes as agreed. We are seeking a self-starter with very high personal and professional values, attention to detail, strong work ethic and positive attitude. 


  • Manage coordination of federal, state, income and other tax compliance preparation activities with third party accounting firms, prepare supporting schedules and review completed returns.
  • Manage the annual and quarterly tax provision preparation.
  • Reconcile tax accounts, prepare and review tax related financial statement disclosures.
  • Track tax positions and their potential impacts on the company's effective tax rate.
  • Maintain knowledge of US GAAP rules and ensure proper application as part of the company's tax reporting processes.
  • Manage worldwide transfer pricing policies and procedures, coordinate transfer pricing studies and process changes.
  • Manage and facilitate income, property, and sales and use tax audits.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effect of these developments to Management team, and create strategies to optimize tax structure.
  • Assist payroll and HR teams with expatriate and payroll taxation questions.
  • Coordinate and monitor tax accounting and reporting for international operations.
  • Manage other compliance activities as assigned.
  • Assist with special projects such as tax research, tax studies, analysis of income tax consequences of transactions, acquisitions, and projects relating to other business initiatives.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Taxation
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a tax or public accounting role
  • Experience in manufacturing or high-tech industry preferred
  • Technically strong with solid knowledge and experience in corporate tax compliance; excellent knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance and all types of tax returns
  • Proven track record of working with multi-entity and global organizations
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to communicate accounting concepts.
  • Prior experience in tax strategy implementation, planning, support and project management
  • Experience with transfer pricing preferred and basic knowledge of international aspects of taxation (income, VAT, etc.) with practical experience in this area
  • Willingness to travel – occasionally
