Device Engineer

nLIGHT is seeking an experienced Device Engineer to join our Engineering team.

The Device Engineer will oversee technical aspects of some diode laser products, from design to final qualification and failure. The position will support manufacturing, sales and marketing to ensure product deliveries meet internal and customer specifications. In addition, the engineer will use his or her skills, for data analysis, device modeling/design, device characterization, failure analysis, and reliability studies, to support device engineering activities, for various IR&D or external projects/programs at nLIGHT.


  • Develop new product and/or processes
  • Improve existing products
  • Oversee device configurations and ensure products meet specificationsSolve problems for devices
  • Support Sales and Marketing
  • Support various IR&D and external/internal programs/projects
  • 2-5 years of experience in semiconductor laser design/manufacture highly preferred.
  • Cleanroom experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics required, Masters/ Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Physics preferred.
  • Experience programming in C/C++, JAVA, .NET, and/or LabVIEW preferred.
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) experience is desired.
  • Strong comprehension of diode laser physics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Team player with sound interpersonal skills, being a good communicator.
  • Being able to handle multiple tasks and rapidly adapt to changing. priorities.
  • Being self-directed, conscientious, taking initiative.
