Optical Mechatronics Engineer

Job Description: Support development of cutting edge laser and electro-optical systems through the design, implementation, debug and verification of integrated software, firmware, electrical, and mechanical sub-systems.  This position will be challenging and require complex integration skills and is an ideal opportunity for a candidate that wants to work hard to develop solutions to automate and control advanced electro-optical systems, in many cases leveraging existing solutions but in many other cases requiring new development.

  3. Effectively manage schedule and priorities with minimal daily direction to meet mid to long-term schedule objectives.
  4. Experience in motion control for high speed devices, ideally for application in electro-optical systems.
  5. Experience in development of software using MATLAB.
  6. Experience in development of software using C/C++/C#/Python.
  7. Experience in development of software using LabVIEW and/or Formal LabVIEW certifications.
  8. Experience in Data acquisition.
  9. Experience in automation and/or real-time control.
  10. Exhibit strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity with implementation of real-time control for electro-optical systems.
  11. Experience and understanding of object oriented programming concepts.
  12. Knowledge of and ability to specify vendor requirements for motion control components and associated controllers and cabling.

 

Additional Desired Experience / Capability

  1. Experience with VHDL or Verilog.
  2. Experience with FPGAs or microcontrollers and their interface to external devices (PCs, motors, analog circuits).
  3. Working knowledge of .NET Framework (version 4.0 or higher)
  4. Working knowledge of electrical components, including power supplies, ESD precautions, PCB testing and general troubleshooting.
  5. Experience building prototype (first article) cables and wiring harnesses and associated fabrication drawings.
  6. Experience with electro-optical systems including acquisition, pointing, and tracking.
  7. Experience in Adaptive Optical (AO) Systems.
