Senior Cost Accountant

Lead inventory valuation and product costing processes for the US, and ensure consistency worldwide. Collaborate, provide recommendations, and help implement initiatives to leverage system improvements, streamline the close process, and continuously improve analysis of margins. Partner with Operations team to identify and drive improvements in processes, inventory accuracy and financial reporting to help drive decisions. Support Operations with financial analysis for decision making.

You will be providing operational, reporting, and project support in cost accounting for nLIGHT’s expanding businesses in Vancouver, Washington and Hillsboro, Oregon. There will be a high degree of   collaboration required across the organization, including with international locations in China and Finland. You need to be a hands-on professional who is a creative problem-solver, with extremely strong analytical and system skills. We are seeking a self-starter who likes to be involved in a wide variety of projects. You should have high personal and professional values, strong work ethic and positive attitude. This position reports to the Worldwide Operations Finance Manager.

Functions

  • Perform month-end inventory close processes and provide insightful analysis of cost of goods sold.
  • Work with product teams to estimate product costs and evaluate impact of cost reduction strategies.
  • Prepare financial reports and analysis in support of management reporting, budget/variance tracking, financial reporting, tax and annual audit.
  • Partner with Operations team to ensure their processes and procedures support good inventory control and accurate costing. Provide analytical support for business decisions.
  • Collaborate on departmental and cross-functional teams to complete system implementations, process improvements, automation and streamlining efforts.
  • Participate in worldwide sharing of best practices; including developing/documenting cost accounting policy and internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing industry with exposure to costing.
  • Strong working knowledge of cost accounting and analysis; good understanding of US GAAP.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and present summarized information to management
  • High standards for quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Power user of Microsoft Excel and ERP systems. Ability to work with large volumes of data. Microsoft Dynamics AX experience and utilization of data query tools is an advantage.
  • Must enjoy new challenges, streamlining work, identifying areas for improvement and following through to drive related changes.
